It is a crazy week at work for me so I was unable to get out to the horses today as had been planned. Deb stepped in as the official photographer, and did a mighty fine job. Alexios has done a tremendous amount of growing and learning in the past 6 weeks. He has become much more comfortable being handled, and even allowed Deb to groom him all over today without the assistance of a halter and lead rope.
In the photo below you can see that Alexios managed to find something mucky to lie in at some point (hence the need for grooming). The first order of business was to let Anastacia and Alexios out into the pasture for some grazing.
Alexios enjoys the opportunity to do some exploring now that he is more comfortable being out in all that space.
He still pays attention to what momma is eating though, as she really does seem to know which is the good stuff.
Anastacia is looking great these days, having slimmed down considerably since giving birth.
Something has caught Alexios' attention, of course it could be anything as the world is still full of new things for him.
There is some sort of bee out in the pasture that the horses just hate.
I'm not sure if it actually stings the horses or just likes to buzz around them, perhaps trying to get some of the salt that is on their coats. Either way, when they show up, the horses take off!
Anastacia made a huge circuit with Alexios by her side.
He had to prance a little. I'm sure it felt good to be stretching those long legs of his alongside his momma.
She slowed down, having outrun the nuisance, but Alexios was ready to keep going.
The bees caught up so off they went again.
It is just exhilarating to watch them in motion.
Little Alexios leads the way.
Even Favorito decided to get into the act, showing off his studly side.
Anastacia is starting to decide that maybe being out in the pasture is not the best idea and heads back towards the pen.
She stops for a little more grazing and Alexios decides that momma makes a good scratching post.
They were both happy for feed once they were away from the dastardly bees. Anastacia hurriedly finished hers and decided to try to help herself to Alexios' rations. He wasn't going to give up easily.
When they were done eating it was time to head for the shade of the shed and social time with the other horses.
