This afternoon we were able to spend time down with the horses. Anastacia has learned that when we first arrive at the pasture she and Alexios will be let out to graze, and then when it is time to come back in, she will get her feed. Once Deb walked into the pen they both followed her to the gate and waited for it to open.
As soon as Anastacia stepped through the gate she noticed something.
She went into high alert. Her body language is telling Alexios that there is something she is not sure about so he should be cautious.
She reacted by moving towards the item of interest, and Alexios responded by running back into the pen.
He followed along with her from the safety of territory that is well known and secure.
Anastacia had caught sight of the two new mares that had recently moved into the adjoining pasture. She had known they were there but for some reason, she was unsure about them today. She watched them for a short while then decided there was no threat so she commenced grazing.
Once mom called off the alert Alexios realized he was definitely on the wrong side of the fence.
He wasn't quite sure how to rectify this so Deb walked back into the pen to lead him out.
At this moment, she is his lead mare.
There is no substitute for mom though and as soon as he realized he was clear of the pen, he took off to join her.
He seemed relieved to be back by her side.
All was well in his world and therefor it was time to graze.
Today was a big day in his world since we moved Poesia into their pen while these two were out grazing. That deserves a photo essay unto itself so stay tuned.
