Working with a foal to condition it to being handled is one of the most important things that can be done to ensure its well being. The sooner this is started, the better. Today Deb and my sister Natalie spent some time at the pasture introducing Alexios to grooming. These photos are all taken by my sister.
The first step was to get Anastacia caught. Since Alexios doesn't want to be apart from her for very long, inevitably he will be drawn to the activity around her.
He is a very curious one, just like his momma who also like to explore everything with her mouth. It was a good distraction though which allowed Deb to casually touch him
Of course, he may be trying to figure out the trick Anastacia used to open up the pen and get to him the other day.
The brush was interesting but a sleeve is so much more fun to chew on. 
Finally he stood still long enough to discover that a back scratch feels really, really good!
It didn't last for long. Soon he had to go burn off a little nervousness at being introduced to something new.
He went back and forth a few times with this but eventually it was time for the entertainment to leave for the day. He appears to be sad to see them go.
No matter, there is always momma to keep him company.
