Alexios in Action

Today was the first time that I got out to meet the little one. Of course, my camera came along for the ride.
He was curious about me when I first went into the pen. I reached out my hand and he mouthed it a bit. It seems he has taken after his mother that way, she loves to explore things with her mouth.

As soon as I started snapping photos he just had to get up close and personal.

He nursed for awhile, and then all of a sudden, he was off. Alexios, the fearless race horse had arrived.

He took off running as fast as his legs would allow.

He went galloping around the pen in one direction, then stopped and wheeled, and started off in a different direction.

He was having a blast.

All the older horses just stood by and watched with somewhat bemused expressions.

He really is a good looking little fellow.

Here you can see the termino in him - there is a very distinct movement that this breed makes, almost like a swim stroke, that allows them to be an incredibly smooth ride.

This one seems to show the exuberance of youth. He was so into the moment, and so pleased to discover that he could move with such speed.

He even had a little stallion moment.

Once he'd worn himself out, he decided to mimic his momma. She has been nibbling at the spring grass that is coming up in the pen, so he had to give it a try. Of course, his legs are too long for his neck so he had to adopt a rather amusing stance.

We spent a good long while out there with him today but soon enough it was time to go. The little guy had really worn himself out.

As we drove off we saw that he was stretched out and fast asleep.
